I Love the Nightlife

For all the negative things that I can say about Philly, one positive thing I can say is that it's certainly purty at night.

In other news, it's 40 degrees out and I'm fairly numb and the wind is making my nose leak. Commuting stinks in the winter (except when it's snowing - beats driving!).

Now where's my bleeping bus?!

bachelorette love

"Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those that mind don’t matter and those that matter don’t mind."

because these girls matter

thanks to my beautiful, fun-loving, hilarious, generous female loves of my life! you made a swell bunch of bridesmaids. extra special thanks to my friend nikki, a brand new nyc resident who was able to join us in our romp in the city.

we started out at lucky chengs drag caberet (yes, you read that correctly), hit the nearest irish pub for my drink of choice (guiness of course), and moved on to the pyramid, nyc's own 80s club.
AWESOME !

it was a night i'll ALWAYS remember.

One of those nights

Ever have one of those days where...

Your cat pukes 5 times in 5 different places in 2 different rooms in the span of 3 minutes?

You're already running mad late but dear hubby calls and needs you to hunt down a folder he forgot to bring to work and you have to search high and low for it and turns out it was inches from where you were standing?

It's pouring freezing rain and your umbrella is falling apart as you make the mile dash to the train station?

You miss said train by 2 minutes?

You have 8 hours to complete and send out an important grant but you need like 24 more hours?

You can't get Microsoft Word to format a document to save your life?

You get out of work an hour late only to just miss your bus, forcing you to spend some quality time with Jack Frost?

At least I had this beauteous sight waiting for me at 30th Street Station...

Can't wait to be home and in my pajamas!

Happy Thanksgiving (eve)!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in Bloggyland! I hope that you are all able to spend time with loved ones, that your travels are safe and speedy, and that you have some time to reflect on the blessings in your life.

What am I thankful for this year?

The serious...

* Cody ... I can never put into good enough words to express how grateful I am that we found each other. We both were at the back end of long and wrong relationships, and we very easily could have decided to go on radically different paths. But instead we decided to listen to our hearts and give getting to know one another a go. I'm so happy we did. Duh.

* My family, of course. It's been a hard year, to say the least. I'm not sure how to say this, but I feel that we all learned life on this Earth is short and that it's time to put our differences and hard feelings aside and come together. Babies, and weddings, and now the holidays will hopefully continue to bring us all closer.

* Apart from my family, my parents. Especially my parents. For reasons unnumbered, I can never express my gratitude enough for all they've done for me.

* Epic Church. Without my church family, where would I be? What would my outlook on life be without them? How would I have gotten through this year without their support, advice, and friendship? I don't think I would have made it in one piece. I think a lot of folks are thankful for them this year, and I'm so happy to be among them.

* My dear friends, near and far. I am thankful for those that make the effort to keep in touch by phone and Facebook. I am still in awe of how many of them came by planes, trains and automobiles to attend the wedding. These girls (and guys!) are simply wonderful. I hope I am there for them just like they are there for me.

* My country, the good ole USA.

* Our men and women in uniform, so bravely serving at home and abroad. I can never thank them enough for the sacrifice they've made.

* A home with all the amenties I could wish for. I sleep in a warm bed. I have running water. HOT water. My fancy thermostat can adjust the temp in my apartment to whatever I want. Lights turn on. Laundry is washed and dried. The pantry is stocked with healthy and tasty food. I have a comfy couch to sit on while I watch television. What more can anyone ask for?

* My job. It might not be the one I always dreamed of, but I am thankful to be employed with a 40 hour a week job that results in a weekly paycheck. Oh yeah and benefits. Benefits rock. Go health insurance! Hopefully next year I can add that I'm thankful for all of my friends and family having health insurance that they can afford and utilize.

...and the not so serious...

* My anifamily! Ok that's dorky. But whatever, this is my space and I can say what I want. I love my cats and of course Patrick Swayze 2.0. I can have just a terrible, rotten day, but when I come home to 4 balls of fur just dying for a cuddle, it puts a smile on my face!

* Holiday Lattes from Starbucks. So good, so so sooooo good... (but expensive!)

* Beautiful printed scarves that keep me warm yet fashionable (in my humble opinion) in the chilly fall weather.

* My iPhone. Music, games, scheduling, email, web - all in one! I'd be more thankful if I got service but whatever. Let's not be picky. Who wants a phone that can make phone calls anyway?

* My glasses, because you're never thankful until you lose them for 2 weeks.

What are you thankful for?

So....what is up with YOU?

  • Cody and I have been married for two months already... I can hardly believe it. Time flies! We got our professional pictures back not long ago, and we're in the process of waiting for our thank you cards to be sent to us. I can't wait to cross my last "to do" off the list, and let our guests know how much it meant to us that they came and were just so darn generous. It brings tears to my eyes!
  • We've been working our apartment little by little. Cody had painted the living room shortly before I moved in, and did the kitchen last spring. In August he did the bedroom and the back bedroom. We bought an awesome sectional (holla holla party at our place) for the living room, as well as a beautiful new bed and dresser. Add in our shiny new kitchen toys, we are finally feeling like adults instead of overgrown college students. Our towels match! We have nice glass food containers instead of Chinese take out storage! WE ARE NOT SLEEPING ON A FUTON!
  • Epic Church is grrrrowing and we're so excited to be a part of it! The two of us have been leading a small group with our good friend Sarah, and we love it. Well, Cody loves it, I'm just along for the ride. I'm still finding my voice when it comes to being a leader, and I'm still discovering how to put my faith into words. I've always been on the quieter side when it comes to speaking about my feelings, so this is a huge step for me. We've been doing a message series from Andy Stanley and it's been a big help for me in dealing with choices I've made in my life and finding out where I'm going.
  • We've been dealing with two on-and-off sick cats. Miss Mitts has breast cancer and Vanna White has kidney failure. We're trying to keep them as comfortable as possible, without breaking the bank and putting us in economic trouble. So far so good! Miss Mitt's seems to be in good health and spirits, and Vanna is improving by the day.
  • Our first holiday as a married couple is almost here. We'll be spending the day with my parents and sister and her family in New Jersey. I've always loved Thanksgiving... it always puts things into perspective for me. I have so many things to be thankful for, and it's nice to have a day in which to reflect on that. I'm hoping to do a "thankful" post tomorrow or the next day, so check that out!
  • Now that the wedding is done, I'm ONCE AGAIN trying to iron out a plan for grad school. So frustrating! I'd like to take advantage of the educational benefits my workplace offers, but nothing is really ringing my bell if you know what I mean. I don't want to go a course just because it's convenient or better than nothing (hence how I ended up with current college degree). I want to do something that's going to be interesting, challenging, and bring me to a place I want to be. And so the search continues..........
  • Still working on paying my debt off! Slowly but surely...
  • I desperately want to go to Europe next fall or winter! I'm hoping to get some freelance or babysitting jobs in the next few months to help save up. Since I'm no longer doing the insurance thing (long story, we'll save that one), I need another way to bank some extra cash. Any advice is welcome.

Honeymoon

Cody and I debated long and hard about the honeymoon. Would we go immediately following the wedding? Should we wait a few months to save more money and have more vacation days? Cruise? All-inclusive? Do-it-ourselves wandering in Europe?

We decided to leave on the honeymoon on the Monday following our wedding. Our good friend Brad introduced us to VacationsToGo.com, a website specializing in amazing cruise deals. We booked our cruise in July, all while praying that we would miss any possible hurricanes cropping up in the Caribbean.

Best idea ever: Leaving out of New York City instead of Florida. No plane travels, no missing luggage, no flying through the airport a la Home Alone. Just a (frightening) bus ride on the Mega Bus to the NYC Cruise Terminal.

Later New York!

The smiles of people finally ready to relax! Loving life at this moment... oh and HI Statue of Liberty!

Drinking the official "Fun Drink" of the day.

Day 1 at sea, 6am. Early riser! View from our porthole.

Marcus Monroe, juggler extraordinaire!

We ditched our fellow cruisers and hunted out this private beach in Turks & Caicos. Just a short taxi ride away and we get peace and quiet, excellent snorkeling, and did I mention peace and quiet?

On the boat to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.

Blue blue blueeeee water! Half Moon Cay = Heavenly.

Beef stroganoff and spaetzle... I ate like a queen!

So, cruises really try to suck whatever money they can out of you. Case in point: they took these goofy pictures of us, printed them, and wanted us to spend something like $30 for a print. So instead we broke out the iPhone camera... we look like undercovers from a bad 70s flick.

Cody and I in front of the Bahama's Parliament House.

We really loved coming back to our room and checking out the towel animals. This was our favorite!

We came back from the honeymoon well-rested, happy, and a little crispy. We are SO glad that we decided to honeymoon right after the wedding. Cody and I both needed a vacation, and this was perfect for us.

We left from NYC on the Carnival Miracle on September 20th, had 2 "at sea" days, then went to Turks & Caicos, Half Moon Cay, and then Nassau, then returned to NYC after 2 more at sea days. The at sea days were filled with hours by the pool, afternoon naps, too much food and fruity drinks, and lots of fun activities. We saw a few comedians, an awesome juggler, played some games, watched some movies, read books, and danced our bottoms off. I got Cody to snorkel and try snails - both amazing feats.

If you like a vacation where you don't have to do a lot of thinking, this is the place. :)

more pictures...part II

Here are a few more from our wedding day!

My immediate family... younger brother Eamonn, older sister Michele, Cody, me, my older brother Louie, Dad, and my Mom.

A great one of my friends Nikki, CJ, and Mary! My friends Jessana and Davey are dancing in the back. I think this sums up the great time we're having!

My cousin Alex and I dancing to "Dancing Queen": a wedding tradition for the two of us.

One of my favorite features, surprisingly, about the venue was the chalkboard. Within the hour of the dance floor opening, the chalkboard was covered in well-wishes...and inside jokes.

a few favorites from the sweetest day EVER!

So, the day has come and gone about a month ago - and it was amazing! Everything turned out just as I imagined. And then, the things I forgot to imagine or decided to blissfully ignore turned out pretty swell too.

Below are some memories captured by our talented and all-around awesome photographer Tim Hussey of Hussey Photography, LLC.

My cousin Mary Grace doing my make-up at the hotel... apparently I was a very calm, well-behaved bride! I woke up around 6:30 am, did some yoga, went swimming, and then had the world's biggest breakfast at the buffet (which I puked up later due to nerves but serves me right!). This is probably about an hour before I saw Cody so I was just about starting to freak out a bit!

This is right before Cody turned around to see me for the first time that day! Cody is very hard to keep surprises from - he's so impatient! I'm shocked he could wait that long to see what my dress looked like.
We decided to see eachother and take pictures prior to the wedding so we could have more time with family and friends at the reception. I am so happy we did this! The light was better, we weren't rushed, and we were both a lot less anxious prior to the ceremony. Or so I think I was...

This is me and my maid of honor, Crystal (or CJ as I sometimes call her). We've been best buddies for ten years - she's my lady soul mate! This awesome chick managed to fulfill her MOH duties in the middle of some crazy life issues, and getting her PhD from UNC. And she traveled up to Pennsylvania (and NYC for the bachelorette party) on multiple occasions. I owe her a kidney.

A great shot of my dress and flowers! The dress is from David's Bridal - I talked smack as I am a former employee and definitely was a skeptic. I got a great deal on the dream dress. Flowers are from Plaza Florist in Norristown, PA. They are gerber daisies, chrysanthemums, calla lilies, and roses.

Me and my handsome hubby!

My gorgeous girls... Jessana (friends since we were toddling), Liz (a wonderful lady I've gotten to know over the past decade), Crystal (my MOH), Kathleen (my cousin I grew up with), and Anastasia (my roommate from Prague and friend for life).

Boys will be boys....
Craig (Cody's friend and co-worker), Cody's dad Ron, best man Joey, Cody's long-time friends Eric and Jonathan.

Me and my amazing parents...I hope I look as good as they do when I hit their ages! I never heard so many guys tell me my mom was hot. HIGH FIVE MOM.

Great shot of the whole party! The ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Morris Arboretum.

Our friend Emily sang and played guitar through the ceremony, and Cody's groomsman Jonathan also played. They did a fab job!

A great shot of the ceremony. So many people came from near and far to be with us, and it means the world to me.

Cody pulling one out from left field...I was shocked! He got down on one knee while putting the ring on my finger. Kent, our Pastor from Epic Church and officiant, gave him the idea. Thanks Kent! I'll never forget it!

I can't explain this one... I just like it. :)

Tim shot this after the ceremony, when we were trying to grab a minute to ourselves.

Our cake is from the Night Kitchen Bakery in Philadelphia in the Germantown section. They did an incredible job on the decorating and flavor - layers of carrot cake, chocolate raspberry, and vanilla with lemon curd. But our toppers stole the show! Our cats and chinchilla, plus us, in "Little People" form - by Fancie Frannies on Etsy.

I got the table decorating ideas from a Better Homes & Gardens e-newsletter I get weekly. The colors were inspired by one of the photos I saw. My mom did the centerpieces - vases from Ikea and flowers from the Amish Market in Mullica Hill, NJ.

Our first dance - so awkward! Cody hates dancing, so we didn't practice at all. We laughed the whole time.

And now my dad and I laughing the whole time because he thinks this is equally awkward.

Me and my godparents, my Aunt Roseanne and Uncle Tim. I lucked out!

More to follow!

45 days

45 days until I get married ... which may or may not explain the lack of posting.

I've been keeping busy, that's for sure. We're down to the home stretch: one and a half months until wedding day. 6 weeks. FORTY PLUS FIVE DAYS.

I'm not scared, which is good, of course. I'm not really even nervous because I don't think reality has set in. For an anxious person like myself, I almost wish I was nervous now so I could get it out of my system. Finally becoming nervous at, oh say, 48 hours prior to the wedding could become detrimental to me and every person I come in contact with around that time that doesn't have Valium in air mist form to squirt in my presence.

I've been busy for the last few weeks/months...
Holidays.
Wedding.
Bridal shower.
EPIC

Over the next few weeks, I've got a lot going on and won't be stopping until October. Oh how I NOT kidding. I'm hoping that I take some "me time" to catch up on my blog reading and writing because I'd love to document this more.

In other news.... I was up in the NYC today. That's how I like to call it: the NYC. Anyway, I was there, but not for BlogHer, like everyone else in my Google Reader feed. BUMMER. I'm not as involved in the writing as I'd like to be, but read just about every day, so I really would have liked to go to meet bloggy friends in the flesh. But alas... no I am not there... next year!

My fab cousin Kathleen and I enjoyed a day in NYC, taking in a taping of WENDY WILLIAMS (bwahahahah) and dinner at Les Halles (of Anthony Bourdain fame). It was terrific and hoping to post photos tomorrow.

random on a friday night

After a rough day at work, I left a little earlier than usual. My boss was working from home, my coworker/officemate/all around awesome lady and great friend left early, and my last appointment for the day canceled. The weather was 70 degrees, the sun was shining, and I had music to listen to. If that doesn't call for a 4pm departure, I don't know what does.

I went and hung out with one of my all time favorites tonight - Wendi. We've been friends for years (a mutual teacher once told me "You and Wendi should be friends, I can just see it") and I wish I got to see her more. She's a great listener, always fun to hang out with, and just a nice person in general. She's quite the world traveler and I admire what she's done -study abroad in undergrad in Italy and returning for grad school, coaching in Denmark - I feel so lucky to have a friend like her. It was a "girls party" thrown by her sister, so I didn't know most of the people, but I knew Wendi's friends that came. My friends as well, I suppose. All great girls and I think we had a fun time. I wish I got to see them more. I'm definitely making that a priority as of now. I miss my girls and I need that time.

Cody's good friend and groomsman Jonathan is visiting this weekend. They're all playing music and hanging out, and I'm enjoying my magazine-internet-cat time. I'm not really big into these surveys, but I thought it'd be fun to do one for once.

1. What time did you get up this morning? Alarm went off at 6:15; however, I dragged myself of bed at 7:15.

2. How do you like your steak? Medium with lots of A1 and seasoning.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? Avatar - overrated!! Visual effects were great and the plot was ok, but the acting was awful. I just don't get why it was nominated for Best Picture.

4. What is your favorite TV show? The Office is my absolute favorite. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention some other favorites: Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations and Lost. Off the air favorites include 90210 (don't judge), Arrested Development, and ER. Oh ER. Definitely ER.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? In a little flat in Prague. If I had to pick a more realistic place to live, it would probably be somewhere out west like Colorado, Oregon, California.......

6. What did you have for breakfast? Iced coffee.

7. What is your favorite Cuisine? I love Mexican, Thai, Spanish tapas, and all that good stuff, but my absolute favorite is my mom's meatloaf with a side of tater tots and veggies.

8. What foods do you dislike? Bananas and stinky cheese.

9. Favorite Place to Eat? In the backyard on a blanket.

10. Favorite dressing? I'm partial to French and Honey Mustard, but I also enjoy a good balsamic.

11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? Chevy Prizm...it's hot.

12. What are your favorite clothes? Well-worn jeans, tank top, a cardy, and my black flats. Standard uniform.

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? That's about the hardest question ever...if I had to pick ANYWHERE, I'd pick Rio.

14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? Depends what kind of morning I had.

15. Where would you want to retire? Silly question since I'll probably never be able to afford to do that...in my dreams, probably Northern Arizona, Utah...

16. Favorite time of day? Dusk.

17. Where were you born? Atlantic City, NJ.

18. What is your favorite sport to watch? Anything involving the Olympics, I'm there.

19. Bird watcher? We don't exactly get anything worth watching here in Philly. Pigeons?

20. Are you a morning person or a night person? I was always a night owl, but I'm better with mornings now.

21. Do you have any pets? 4 cats and a chinchilla.

22. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share? I'm not working tomorrow. Yey.

23. What did you want to be when you were little? A writer....teacher....diplomat.
...interpreter...editor....it changed a lot. My friend Heather said tonight "I remembered when you wanted to be a diplomat." I think that's funny.

24. What is your best childhood memory? Summers and Christmas with the cousins.

25. Are you a cat or dog person? Always was a dog person, but now I think I'm partial to cats. This is mainly because I don't have to walk them twice a day.

26. Are you married? Not yet ;)

27. Always wear your seat belt? YES!

28. Been in a car accident? Unfortunately.

29. Any pet peeves? People who eat smelly food on the bus (especially McDonalds), those who are not tolerant of other peoples' beliefs, being taken advantage of on purpose

30. Favorite Pizza Toppings? Pineapple - my dream pizza is pineapple, sundried tomatoes, and corn. Don't knock it til you try it.

31. Favorite Flower? I do love lillies...and gerber daisies, and mums.

32. Favorite ice cream? Ice cream = no good for me. I love frozen yogurt with crazy toppings like gummy bears.

33. Favorite fast food restaurant? Sonic!!

34. How many times did you fail your driver's test? 1 time, but my teacher said "Those questions were trick questions!!" and marked them right and so I passed. That was the written test. The driving test was a joke. The parking lot was a sheet of ice, so my test lasted 3 minutes. The instructor told me "you look like you can parallel park" so that was that. That story may disturb you, but take comfort that I'm a darn good driver.

35. From whom did you get your last email? The Cheesesteak Team...they make Philly-themed t-shirts.

36. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? Being that I will never do that, this is totally hypothetical. I would say Ann Taylor Loft.

37. Do anything spontaneous lately? I'd say the last year has been spontaneous.

38. Like your job? Hm. Yes, but I feel like I am called to do something else. Just trying to figure it out.

39. Broccoli? I love it in all forms.

40. What was your favorite vacation? Fall 2006 in Europe was a damn vacation. If I had to pick one vacation from that vacation, that'd be damn hard. Going to Italy and having solo and together time, traveling with Jessana, Spain, Germany with Tim the Germ, Dresden with Ana........how could I pick?!

41. Last person you went out to dinner with? The ladies from Epic last Friday...twelve of us went and had Mexican.

42. What are you listening to right now? Last FM.

43. What is your favorite color? Green.

44. How many tattoos do you have? Too many?

45. Coffee Drinker? Yes!!

46. What Magazines are you reading? National Geographic, Nat Geo Traveler, Readers Digest (shut up), Martha Stewart, Glamour (it's free ok)

47. Favorite smell? Clean laundry, Chinese food, fresh flowers, spring time on my mom and dad's porch.

48. Favorite movie of all time? Forrest Gump, Dirty Dancing, Labrynth, Princess Bride, Sliding Doors, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hangover, Tropic Thunder

49. What are you listening to right now? I'm so excited to have my Sirius back - New Wave, 90s, Contemporary Christian........

50. How is the weather right now? Amazing!! 70 today and will get higher tomorrow and Sunday. It's great!

why do i do this?

Some people who shall remain unnamed think it's funny that I love my blogs. Reading them AND writing them - although I'm not so good at keeping up with writing on a regular basis! But yeah, I really look forward to taking some time every day to scroll through my Google Reader. I started out with my cousins Heather and Holly's blogs, and Lora's blogs. It was nice to keep up with family members who i loooove soooo muchhhh, but live so far away. And Lora's blogs are hilarious and, more importantly, honest.

I started to venture out and see what else was out there. I love my foodie blogs - there are so many focused on Philadelphia. My first food blog, however, was not Philly but for Prague. Then I got super into travel blogs, or blogs about Americans or Canadians living and traveling overseas. It was like I got to live vicariously through their experiences.

But my most favorite blogs? They're the ones written by ordinary, run of the mill, young women like myself. There's nothing incredibly special about these blogs, but at the same time there is. Yes - a ton of posts are about what tv shows they're watching, what books they're reading, hanging out with friends on the weekends, what's happening with their relationships, and so on. I write the same things for the most part. What I find special about these blogs and their posts is that it shows we're all so darn different but going through the same general things. We're moving away from our college (or post-high school) selves and becoming real adults with real jobs and real apartments or real mortgages and long term relationships and engagements and marriages and break-ups and drifting from old friends but making time for them every so often and then meeting new friends.............. I'm not the only one going through this. Duh. But it's comforting to know how other people in my boat are dealing.

I've gone through a lot of changes in the past year. Sometimes I find these changes overwhelming. Who wouldn't? But I've been told I take things especially hard because I have "unrealistically high standards" for myself. I'm trying to work on being a little less anxious, remember that things work out in the end, and more people are on my side than I think.

So yeah...thanks to all you bloggers out there who give me some peace of mind and remind me that my problems are not uncommon nor are they as big as they seem to me. I'm a very, VERY blessed person when I look at the big picture, so I will work on remembering that, especially on rough days.

le sigh

September 20-26, 2010. I would refer to this as "heaven."

the common denominator

...of this weekend is "catching up." That's all I've done, and it's about time.

- With friends, new and newer. We had a "Ladies of Epic" night out, and it was a great time. About twelve of us got together to eat an awesome meal, relax, and laugh. I love this group of females...there's a real sense of friendship and comraderie that I've never really felt before. We are all of different ages, backgrounds, whatever...but we all have at least one thing in common. Our differences are awesome conversation points. I've gotten to know some of them fairly well over the last 7 months, but others I met for the first time. It was so great, I can't wait to get together again!

I also went out on Saturday night for my wonderful friend Kristin's birthday. She had this great idea to go ice skating. Well, when I first heard about it, the ice skating sounded great. She used to skate a lot as a kid, so she was like a pro out there. Everyone else did pretty well also. Me? Ugh... I gripped the side half the time. The other half I looked like I was having a seizure. No more ice skating for me!

- With cleaning! Having 4 cats can be a lot of work. It's worth it when you think about the happiness they bring, but man oh man...talk about vacuuming. It never ends. Not only that, we have a new roommate. Should we start our sitcom now or later?

Cody's best man, Joey, moved in this weekend. After some issues with his now ex-girlfriend, he needed to get out of his living situation and get out of it fast. We have an extra room, so we invited him to stay with us until he gets on his feet. It works out for us in many ways - financially, more guy time for him and Cody, and more me time! Oh yeah, and free cable. Good to know a cable guy :) It'll be awfully cozy here for a few months, but it'll make for good stories.

- With organization! Since Christmas, we've been wanting to redo the living room. We finally got to it this weekend. It looks much better now, and definitely allows for more room for visitors.

- With Cody...for sure. It's like we've had this string of bad luck since the last snowstorm. Losing things, constantly being busy, work problems, figuring out money, etc etc etc. It's been neverending! We finally broke out of our rut this week. We met with our pastor who will be officiating the wedding, and that so helped. We've decided to have a weekly date night, away from the house and out of our element, so we can make sure that we talk about certain things and just enjoy our time alone. Even if it's just walking along the tow path.

- Lost! Final season and I've so not been into it. More like I haven't had time. But it's onnnnn...

oh thank heavens...

I broke down...I couldn't do it anymore! After years of having satellite radio and getting it for free, they finally caught on to the fact they weren't billing me. Since I don't drive that much anymore, I thought it would be economically sensible to cancel my subscription.

For awhile, it wasn't so bad. I could deal with listening to 88.5 or some cds. I could deal with it if the longest I was driving was an hour.

Well, at the end of January, I went to visit my dear Frau Ana in North Jersey, a good 2 and a half hours away. This was the first time in 5 years I've driven that kind of distance with no satellite.

You definitely do NOT know what you've got until it's gone. Oh how I underestimated Sirius. I couldn't get my traffic in 2 minutes - I had to wait a whole 10! And when I crossed the North/South Jersey boundary, I didn't know what station in New York City played traffic like 1060AM! I had no 80s mix to jam out to! No BBC! The horrors! You couldn't even begin to imagine.

After that trip, I decided to break down and restart my subscription. Unfortunately, there was some sort of mishap that involved my cup holder and cigarette lighter in my car - to make a long story short, my receiver couldn't get its power from the lighter anymore. Bummer dude.

Well joy of all joys! I was telling my friend Eric, a mechanic, about it on Sunday and he said that he could fix it right then and there. After 5 minutes of fooling with the electrical work and the lighter, I now have power. Insert HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF.

I so want to go on a roadtrip now.

Even better... I got them to give me 5 months for $20!! I love bargaining. So not only will I enjoy driving again, I can now listen to it on my iPhone. Commuting is so much better with Sirius. I can listen to my 80s...the world news...comedy...worship...Martha Stewart...

Oh it is FANTASTIC!

Unfortunately I loved it a bit too much on Tuesday. I was waiting for Cody outside of an interview, listening to the radio, and I ended up draining the battery. Duh. Thank God for AAA - and mom. Thanks Mom.

Mental Health Day

Being that I'm at the end of my brainstem AKA rope, I've decided to take a mental health day. I had plans to leave at noon for a doctor's appointment, but it was cancelled. I decided to reschedule with Mad Mex.

Anyone want to keep me company slash listen to me vent? I'll split my spinach and mushroom quesadilla. I'll buy you your own margarita. Come on!!

*sigh* I love the days where you just hate life. However, tequilla has a way of making it just a little bit better.

PS this is the first drink i've had in a week so lay off about it being 1pm. This week is the sober-est I've been since I was 16. Sorry Mom!

good evening

Uhhhh...happy 2010?

I've turned into my father: I picked trash. Oh yes, I have no shame. My neighbors put out a seemingly perfectly good set of tray tables to be hauled away with the garbage. One fateful morning, I stepped out of my house, locked the door, and turned...it was like a beam of light was surrounding the tables. I heard the angels singing. SCORE! I grabbed those bad boys, pretty much tossed them in the house, and then caught my bus just in time.

All day I thought about those tray tables. Yes, I know that's weird, but we have no table to eat at. We are heathens who eat our dinner in front of the tv with plates on our laps. Sometimes I'd break out my lap desk if I was feeling especially classy that evening. I pondered the odds of these tables being either A: broken or B: infested with some kind of creepy crawly critter. I figured the answer was C: my upstairs neighbors got new ones for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/whatever.

When I arrived home hours later, I was delighted to find that the tables were neither broken nor infested. In the days since obtaining this fantastic find, we have made some life changing decisions. We have one in the kitchen to store items that crowd the counter. Now I have more space to cook! [Who am I kidding...now Cody has more space to cook. I have more space to lay out the dishes to dry.] Another table was used for Cody to set up his laptop, therefore giving us more area on the coffee table to put random items such as scissors, Dum Dum lollypops, and cat eyewash.

The most exciting change has been that I moved my laptop from the back bedroom to tray table number 3. I am no longer delegated to this frozen land in order to update my blog or download music or sync my phone. Now I can use the internets on a real live laptop rather than my iPhone. Joys upon joys.

Tray table number 4 will be used for dining. Unfortunately, this leaves us one short. Tray table sets are like hot dog buns. Never enough in a pack.

This is now my 379th time where I say that I will write more in this blog. Who's taking bets on how long this streak lasts? I put my money on three months...but I hope I'm wrong. Writing keeps my noggin sharp and it gives me an outlet that I desperately need. Since I'm not ballsy enough to speak my opinion in public, I will put this burden on blogger.
